A symposium on “Two Sessions” held in China

China Correspondent: A symposium on the First Session of the 14th National People’s Congress and the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (Two Sessions) was held in China. The aim of the symposium is to share a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the “Two Sessions” in an international context. Representatives of different countries including Bangladesh participated in the symposium.

On Tuesday morning (April 4) local time, the symposium was held in the auditorium of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) via a digital platform and on-site which was organized by the CPAFFC.

Professor Yang Changyong, Director of the General Office, Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), explained the spirit of the two sessions at the symposium.

Deng Lan, Director of the Research Center for People-to-People Diplomacy (RCPPD) presided over the meeting while H.E. Ambassador Lin Songtian, president of the CPAFFC; Michael Hart, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, and many others attended and delivered a speech at the symposium.

Lin Songtian said in his speech that this year’s two sessions are the first national two sessions to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and have attracted worldwide attention. The most important outcome of the two sessions is that Comrade Xi Jinping was unanimously elected president of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC, which fully reflects the common aspiration of the people of the whole country. It is also the unanimous expectation for comprehensively promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a Chinese path to modernization.

Michael Hart, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China said that China is one of the most important markets for most member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in China. China has long-term and stable development goals, huge market prospects, and a predictable business environment that the government attaches great importance to. Development in China is the global long-term strategic goal of multinational companies. It is hoped that China will continue to expand the foreign investment access list, strengthen communication and cooperation, continue to optimize the business environment, and help more foreign companies invest in China.

Through this discussion meeting, the participating delegates have gotten a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the important political event in China “Two Sessions”. The meeting also aims to discuss China’s economic and social development, general trend of domestic and foreign policies, increase mutual understanding, friendship and trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and achieve common development.

Around 700 people including representatives of 19 chambers of commerce from 62 countries and regions of the world including Bangladesh, 72 multinational corporations in China, representatives of 12 international organizations, as well as media workers, think tanks, young scholars, and overseas student leaders attended the meeting. Officials of local people’s associations for friendship with foreign countries, including those from Shanghai, Hubei, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan and so on, also participated in this event.
